Have you been looking around lately thinking to yourself, “I need a home office makeover.”? Maybe you needed a home office, and FAST when you started using your space. You made do with what you had and what worked at the time. Your systems developed haphazardly around you. But now you want your space to be clean, clear, organized, and even motivational! Whether the problem is organizing home paperwork, creating a home filing system, or just making your space more conductive to working in your home office needs a makeover.
Home Office Makeover
Home offices tend to be some of the smallest rooms in the house. You may only have a corner of a room for your home’s office. It is important that your small space be an effective use of space, and that is very possible.
Design Areas for different activities.
You will need three essential areas in your home office design. A Work area, this is where you get things done! It will include workspace on a desk, a home for your computer and printer/scanner.
A Filing area, this is important when organizing home paperwork. Your filing area can keep all of your binders, product and warranty information, reference books used for work, and other filing materials.
And finally a Supply area. Like its name implies this is where you would store all of your office supplies and paper.
Your Furniture Layout
Even if your home office is very small you need to have some office furniture. Specifically you need an effective work area. An effective work area has room for a computer and the equipment you are using with it. A desk is the central hub of an office don’t overlook the importance of having a work surface in your space.
If you have room consider creating an L shaped desk in your office. One arm of the L is dedicated to your computer and printer/scanner. You can work and type without distractions. And then when you need room to write, make notes, or do other work on paper you have the other arm of the L open and available to you.
Your Cables and Wires
If you want a fast yet incredibly effective home office makeover, invest in a cable management system. It is so easy in offices for cables to become an unruly space consuming unsightly mess. Especially if you have just been adding equipment as you go!
A good cable capturing system can make your work space more manageable while also making it safer for your kids to be around because you’re eliminating tripping hazards while you hide extra wire and cord. Having your cords organized means when you need to move things or reorganize you can find the right cord really quickly and you don’t have to fight through a knot of cables!

How Does it Make You Feel?
When completing a home office makeover you want a good layout, but you also want to create an environment that makes you FEEL like staying and working.
Try to incorporate as much natural light as possible into your space. If windows or sun exposure is at a minimum in your space make sure to add ample lighting and that lighting should mimic natural light as closely as possible.
It might be time to paint. Maybe when you started in your space you painted your room a neutral cream, a dull beige, or a drab dark color. It might have seemed a good way to limit distractions. But now the room just doesn’t seem to have any life to it! Selecting a more vibrant paint color can make you want to work more! A vibrant color can make better use of the natural light you are channeling into your office and it can make your office a place you actually want to go.
A home office makeover on a small space can make a huge difference. You’ll become a more effective worker, better at organizing home paperwork, and just more interested in actually working in your home office!
